Director of BaFID visits Oman
At the invitation of the University of Nizwa Prof. Georges Tamer, the founding director of BaFID, visited Oman from 13 to 20 December 2024. During his stay, he met Mr Muḥammad al-Mālkī, the director of the Department of Interfaith Dialogue and Religious Tolerance at the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs. Together they discussed opportunities for cooperation between the Department for Interreligious Dialogue and BaFID. At the invitation of the German ambassador in Muscat, Dr Dirk Lölke, Prof. Tamer gave a lecture at the ambassador’s residence on 18 December. Under the title ‘Peacemakers or Conflict Agents? Religions in Discourse’, he presented the potential for peace that the monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam can develop if their interconnections and mutual relationships are revealed. Prof Tamer also took this opportunity to present BaFID and its projects, which met with a great response. During the event, Prof Tamer also presented Ambassador Lölke with BaFID’s Interreligious Calendar 2025. In the ensuing discussion, the importance of academic engagement with interreligious discourse in the service of society was emphasized several times.
