Academic Rückert Award (ARA) 2026
Awarded by the Faculty of Arts and the Department of Theology at FAU, represented by the Chair of Oriental Philology and Islamic Studies at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Erlangen Rückert Circle. To honor the achievements of the poet, orientalist, and translator Friedrich Rückert and to promote academic engagement with his work, the Academic Rückert Award (ARA) is presented every two years to a young scholar. Students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers are eligible to apply with a qualifying thesis (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral thesis, postdoctoral thesis, or comparable academic achievement). The thesis must be no older than three years at the time of application. The topic of the thesis should either directly relate to Friedrich Rückert, his work, letters, and/or his poetry and translation or expand on a research topic addressed by Friedrich Rückert. The award carries a cash prize of €1,000. A five-member scientific jury will decide on the winner.
The award will be presented in 2026 during the doctoral graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Humanities and Theology at FAU.
