All Saints’ Day
Date: 1. November 2025Time: All day
All Saints' Day is an example of a postponement of the actual occasion for a public holiday, as according to the Roman rite, all those saints for whom there is no separate public holiday have been commemorated in Catholic parishes on 1 November of each year since the early modern period. The Orthodox churches of the Byzantine tradition, on the other hand, do this on the first Sunday after Pentecost Sunday. It is only on All Souls' Day, on 2 November, that the faithful are encouraged to visit the graves of the deceased and remember them. However, as 1 November is a public holiday in Germany in predominantly Catholic federal states such as Bavaria or Baden-Württemberg, and in Austria and other neighboring European countries, but 2 November is not, the commemoration of the dead has usually shifted from 2 November to the non-working day on 1 November.
